Effects of Stress on Women
The effects of stress on women will be tolerated or dealt with in different ways than men might, though some of the results may be similar. Men and women are different creatures when compared to one another, both in body and mind. Stress can range anywhere from daily activities to a major life incident, but while it can keep you on edge for a short amount of time, stress that is stretched over hours and days can lead to much more.
Initially the effects of stress on women, you may think you are getting ill or are just having a mild problem. For example, too much stress can lead to a headache, which you might just brush off. But stress can also lead to sleep disorders, problems focusing, a short temper, uneasy stomach, problems within your job, anxiety, and depression. What may have initially started as one headache could branch off into any one of the previous issues, and too much of one problem or a combination of them may begin to interfere with your life.
Though the effects of stress on women will often cause hiccups in hormones, there are times when a woman’s body has natural hormonal fluctuations. However, just because these fluctations are natural and normal, it does not mean they do not sometimes put stress on a woman’s body. Menstrual cycles, puberty, pregnancy, and menopause can cause hormonal changes and because of the affect they have on a woman’s body, it can lead to stressful feelings, which in turn can only further aggravate the situation.
Some women may attempt to hide their stress, which is not always the best choice as it can lead to a potential breakdown. Other women seek to tend their children, feeling better through protecting and caring. Still others may seek out their friends and find relief through socializing. Because they know other women may be having similar problems, it is comforting to know you are not alone.
