Stress from a Midlife Crisis

Stress from a midlife crisis can happen to men or women, so it isn’t just the men to worry about when it comes to having a sudden impulse and thinking it can be solved with a brand new motorcycle. Around the age of 40 (which is a rather rough estimate, as a midlife crisis can happen to anyone either 20 years before or after the age of 40, the point is that it is very possible to have one), you may start to experience feelings of discontentment with your current place in life. You will start to wonder where your life is going and feel bored with the things and people around you, questioning the meaning of life and your particular reason for living. People often feel adventurous and want to do something new, different, and exciting (hence the motorcycle scenario).

Stress from a midlife crisis can easily occur because oftentimes people do not know how to cope with these feelings. A midlife crisis can also be brought on due in part to stress; being stuck in debt, dealing with the death of a loved one such as a parent, and other major life changes that will have stress tied to them. Stress can further increase your uncomfortable feelings. The problem can become large enough that people get therapy or try to make drastic life changes themselves (again, the motorcycle scenario). While therapy may be able to help with the stress of a midlife crisis and help you find a way out of it, a major life change can only lead to more stress; fights with your spouse about the change, increased debt, and soon you can find yourself with high blood pressure problems, insomnia, depression, and more, if you were not suffering from them already.

If you find yourself in a midlife crisis, learn about how it works and you may be able to handle it more wisely and rid yourself of the stress it can place on you.
