Stress from Illness

Stress from illness makes us worry because it takes away from what we are able to do daily. Jobs, school, time with friends and family, or even simple chores that need to be done. An illness can put you out of commission for a while, leaving these things unfinished and ready for you to think about as you attempt to recover. If you become ill enough, you may begin to stress about your health itself, worrying constantly whether or not you will be all right, how much your medical bills will be and how you will pay for them, any medications you might need may exacerbate other problems and can be expensive, and so forth. Illness is unproductive, so it tends to create worry that can be hard to stem.

Many scientists have done research on the links between cancer and stress. Stress from illness can actually lower your immune system which makes you more vulnerable to any number of sicknesses. Stress does nothing but bring you down, so you need to focus on ways to remain positive or at least occupy your mind in order to avoid constantly putting your body in a stressed state. You can ask a doctor or therapist for help, and don’t be afraid to seek the aid and comfort of family and friends.

If someone you know is ill, the concern you have for them can turn into stress for you. Try to keep that stress at bay because making yourself sick from worrying too much about that person does him or her no good.
