Stress and Fatigue

A lot of problems can be caused by too much stress and fatigue is one of these; not exactly something you want to deal with while under stress. However, most of these problems are inevitable, caused by the mode your body goes into when you stress.

Fatigue is caused by stress due mostly to the fight or flight response our body slips into when we stress too much. A small amount of stress can often have little to no affect. Maybe a headache and nothing more. However, continued stress means our body continues to be in a state of fight or flight. The problem is that we can often do neither of these things. The manager of your job would not be very happy if you suddenly ran off and didn’t come back, nor would your spouse be pleased if you suddenly attacked him or her. Fight or flight does not work the same way it did hundreds of years ago when we could actually utilize those options.

Instead, adrenaline and a stress hormone called cortisol put your body into that heightened state. Remaining in this ready to run/fight state for so long can be draining on your energy. You are constantly in an excited and pumped up; your blood circulation increases, your heart pumps faster, and so forth. It is impossible to be in this state for too long without becoming tired and fatigued. Some studies have even shown that stressing too much during your life may lead to chronic fatigue later on in life.

If you have been dealing with a lot of stress and fatigue has set in, it is important to get rest and good food. You can also use exercise to help get rid of your excess energy that can put you in a healthier state of tiredness while also increasing good feelings inside. Stress management can help reduce fatigue as well as other stress symptoms.
