Stress and Depression

Too much stress and depression can result. Not all stress is bad, but most of the time when we stress, we do not feel all that wonderful. Stressors usually tend to be negative, or at the very least, transformed into a negative image in our minds. A job project may not be too big of a deal, but a bucket of stress the person experiences when faced with it can turn that project into something else entirely within his or her mind. Suddenly it becomes overwhelming and starts keeping the person up at night.

Depression is not only a sign of stress, but also a result of too much stress. Simply put, you have stressed so much, you have put yourself into a state of intense sadness; everything seems hopeless and you do not know how to escape the situation. Too much stress can lead you to this place, and sometimes it can be a combination of a powerful event and stress that can aid in the development of depression. Falling into too much debt, for example, can cause you constant worry and concern for yourself and possibly your family, and if you do not know what to do, you can lose objectivity and fail to seek out solutions because you have fallen into depression.

Stress and depression can be difficult to break out of, especially if the stress continues to come upon you and you have a tough time getting rid of it. You may have other problems brought on by stress that will only hamper the depression more, such as anxiety problems or insomnia. In severe cases, seeking professional help can be the only way to escape stress and depression. If you are able, you can try stress busting techniques such as a hobby, meditation, yoga, or playing with a pet. Stepping out of your depression and away from your stress can give you a clearer state of mind and make you better able to cope with your problems.
