School Stress

School stress is unique to children. Stress is not just an adult thing. Children can also experience stressful situations; they are simply different from what an adult may experience. School can be one of these situations and there can be many different factors attributing to the stress your child feels from school.

Scheduling and schoolwork are a main source of school stress. There are times when a child might feel completely overwhelmed by the amount of schoolwork he or she has to do, coupled with the feeling that there is not enough time. Adding to this can be a sense of required perfection; the student is expected to do well.

Organization may be exactly what your child needs. Without it, he or she may start panicking and blowing problems out of proportion amidst their stress. You need to calm your child down and figure out a way to get all his or her schoolwork done in plenty of time and in a comfortable environment.

Figure out what times are available for your child and help him or her choose a good study area. You can add a few extra measures if your child is not bothered by them, such as soft, classical music or peppermint scents for aromatherapy. Once the child has a time and place to work, his or her schedule can seem less crowded and stress can be reduced significantly.

You should also be sure your child is getting enough sleep. A lack of sleep can lead to stress, and during school it can mean an irritable child who has trouble focusing. You should also try to instill optimism in your child so that if something does go wrong, he or she automatically starts looking at all the possible options instead of dwelling on the problem and stressing over it. If your child has trouble studying, look up possible study skills to help get him or her back on track.
