ISTP Under Stress

Those with an ISTP or “Introverted Sensing Thinking Perceiving” personality type are sometimes known as “The Mechanic” due to their drive to consider ration and logic when learning how to understand how things work, analyzing, and reasoning. Though they can be a little adventurous, they can sometimes hide important things.

When they becomes stressed, he or she can start rebelling further against the rules. Though typically they may conform even if they are unwilling to, they at least respect the rules they are placed under. Stress can cause them to strain against these restrictions, making them either desire flight or fight instead of simply living with the stressor or attempting to deal with it in other matters. If a fight response is chosen, an they can have an emotional outburst of anger.

Some may go so far as to extract revenge in some manner. Doing so can put them in further jeopardy. By finding ways to ruin things others hold in high value, more rules and restrictions can come into place, further constricting the ISTP, which can only stress them further. They are usually patient, but when too much stress is applied, they can burst under the pressure.

Through these actions they can push away those that may be close to them, either in family or in the workplace. Such adverse reactions can drive people away, which can remove possibilities of help with the particular stressful event. If they experiences too much stress, they need to seek out help before it grows worse. Identifying the stressor and working out some manner of relieving it is important for both the person and those around him or her.

Understanding your own reactions as an ISTP (as not everyone will react in the same manner even if their personality type if the same) can be key in learning how to deal with your stress.
