INTP Under Stress
An INTP under stress is usually driven by a fear of failure. INTPs, or Introverted iNtuitive Thinking Perceiving personality types tend to function within their own minds, sometimes called “The Thinkers” of the personality types. Though they live in a world that is full of possibilities, often this is inside their mind, analyzing and searching for logical answers for the various problems they are faced with. Knowledge is important to them, and though they are flexible and tolerant most of the time, remaining shy and somewhat distant when it comes to people can occasionally have a negative impact on them.
The ideas they may come up with can become over-analyzed and too abstract for others, thus leading them into a bit of isolation. INTPs can be prone to nit-picking, something that often irritates others. Their criticism can be difficult on co-workers and make personal relationships complicated. Their standards can become very difficult plateaus to reach, and when an INTP fails to reach his or her goals, they can begin to worry. Fear of failure is a prime stressor for an INTP, and when it grows too strong the INTP may start to doubt his or her intelligence and instead feel weak and helpless.
It is possible for an INTP under stress to lock up and have difficulties functioning, focusing too much on their inabilities. This can keep them from trying to push through the stress and realizing they do have the power to avoid or minimize the failure they have been preoccupied with, either real or imagined.
When an INTP is in an environment that allows him or her to be free with creative genius and allowed to express any quirks without fear of censure, they may produce some astonishing work for the rest of us to enjoy.
