INFP Under Stress

An INFP under stress can become emotional, especially if they stressor is something that affects them strongly.

Someone with an INFP (Introverted iNtuitive Feeling Perceiving) personality type can be classified as an idealist, or how some have coined the phrase, “I Never Find Perfection.” Many people who have been assessed as an INFP have claimed this to be true. INFPs seek to make the world a better place – a big job for one person. They rely heavily upon their intuition when it comes to facing others, an ability that can come in handy when being a good listener to others. Their abilities to remain unbiased make them very good mediators.

Under stress they may end up arguing passionately for what they believe in, though in the heat of the discussion they may begin to misuse or inaccurately state information. This is because many INFPs are not enthusiasts when it comes to logic and facts.

When in situations that demand a choice between an INFPs own code of ethics and personal relationships, an INFP under stress can become torn between making someone happy and preserving their own version of truth. They can sometimes become a bit self-sacrificial, which may leave them wondering about their real sense of self. Too much stress can leave an INFP feeling lost and choice-less. They may begin to over-analyze the meanings of certain situations instead of stepping back and looking at the big picture in a more logical way.

An INFP often seeks a job that is more than just a menial task. They want that job to mean something and be worthwhile, just as they wish to make a difference in the world in order for it to become a better place. INFPs may look to be writers, psychiatrists, musicians, or professors. Friends and family may not always fully understand an INFP’s thoughts or methods, but strong support can help feed an INFP’s needs.
