Exam Stress

How do you get rid of exam stress? Exams can be annoying, but what’s more, exams can become extremely stressful on young people, especially when it can lead to more important things in life. In Japan, students preparing for high school entrance exams can become so stressed, they are driven to commit suicide. While America does not have a problem as big as that, it does not mean it is out of the picture entirely.

There are many exams one may find him or herself faced with. ACTs, SATs, performance exams during early levels of school such as junior high, and college students must deal with exams within classes, and if they wish to go on to graduate school, GRE exams, and several specialized exams depending upon which sort of school you wish to enter (medical, law, etc.). Preparing for such exams can be a task in itself; stressful because you worry you will not be able to remember everything and at times it can seem overwhelming because of the amount of information you feel you must take in. Exam stress can lead to insomnia, anxiety, and social withdrawal.

You can find methods of dealing with exam stress. When it comes to classes, be sure to pay attention, take detailed notes, and hold on to handouts that have important information on them. Plan your time wisely – this is one of the most important aspects that students ignore or forget. An all-night study session is not going to help you; you will be tired the next day and have difficulty remembering what you studied. Instead, organize your time so you have a few hours to devote to studying, accompanied by short break times to refresh yourself.

If you feel stressed, be sure to talk to someone about your concerns. Getting it off your chest can help you feel better. Believe in yourself and put things in perspective. They may seem important now, but when you look at them through the big picture, they are only a tiny part of your life.
