College Stress

College stress has many origins. Paying for college can always be a big stressor because government loans may not always be enough, scholarships are not always a given, and sometimes you and your parents may not make enough. To make matters worse, with so many jobs demanding college degrees, you know that having a college education is your key to a good job and better life. Always double check your school information to see if they have any plans available to help break down payments or lessen them. If you must, you can always seek and outside loan to give you the extra money you need.

Stressful events in college can also be due to class work and exams. Who college student hasn’t worked themselves into a state over a looming deadline or particularly large paper or frightening exam? College stress can be caused when students decide to pull all-nighters to study, which is not always the best idea. Instead, organize your time – get a planner or schedule book if you have to – and block out sections of time for you to study and then to have break time to give your brain a breather. All-nighters can leave you drained the next day and you are not as likely to retain all the information you want and need to. College freshman can have a particularly tough time because they are moving out to go to a strange place, meet new people, and are often on their own for the first time in their lives. It can be both frightening and exciting. Important to remember is the other freshman are likely to be in the same state as yourself. Most upperclassmen will remember what it was to be a freshman and show you courtesy – college is not high school after all.
